Getting over surgery. :) Yep, it's been fun... and painful. I've had arthritis since a teenager and both knees are bad. I finally found someone who would perform a total knee replacement which wasn't easy since my gp didn't want to refer me due to my age and the idea that I could end up needing a second after I'm through my 50's. But finally, the knee that was at its worst point has been replaced and I'll tell you.. everyone who's had it done said it was the best decision they ever made. What they didn't tell me was that its the most painful surgery/recovery you can have. I'm assuming that the majority were people who were already retired and had all the free time in the world. Me.. not so much. I'm working full time so to add that stress on top of the pain, pain pills (which are both a blessing and a curse) and general misery made it that much more difficult.
I had no idea the recovery time would take over 4 months to a year. Not fun....
New in the gallery is 'Mermaid Love'. I'm enjoying the water reflections and sunset lately. Maybe I'm getting sick of the cold and winter although it's been a mild one. I definitely prefer the sun and warmth. I hate sweaters and socks... I want tanks and sandals. :)
Next to SciFi, Mermaids are one of my favorite images to create. I love the way this came out. I rendered it out print size so I may make it available for purchase. Not sure yet. I'm dealing with a lot of pain in my knee right now and some days it can be difficult to concentrate. But, I finally got a doctor to agree to a total knee replacement despite the fact that I'm typically considered too young for one. It's taken years of getting doctors to take my pain seriously but after an xray that shows, without a doubt, my knee is bone on bone with spurs affecting surrounding muscle and tissue, I have a surgery consult. (Finally!) Part of me looks forward to the recovery time where I can have an excuse to take it easy and just render whatever comes into my head but most of me is scared to death of surgery. But, if it means finally being able to be active again... or more active... I welcome it. :)
May be the last of my scifi images for a while. I have new series planned that is a little outside my usual. In this I was going for an alien breaking out of the glass containment chamber.. did I achieve that look? Hope so. :)
Found a little bit of my scifi inspiration that I'd been missing. After Christmas I couldn't come up with a single idea. Daz had some decent sales though so I grabbed a few things. As soon as I saw this little mechanical scorpion this image came to mind. :)
As the kids got older I would tell them that Santa would prefer it if we left the whisky bottle out for him instead of milk. :) By then they knew the score but we still tried to keep the kid aspect of Christmas alive. Now they're all grown up but they still come home for Christmas.
One year when our son was at an age where he knew who Santa really was but our daughter did not, my husband borrowed the Santa suit from the school. With our son knowing what we were doing, we set it up so that she saw Santa that year. Christmas eve they were upstairs in bed and I was saying goodnight when I pretended to hear a noise. We all went to the top of the stair landing where we could look down on the living room, the tree and the fireplace where their stockings were and there was my husband, in the suit and all padded up leaving gifts at the tree. Her reaction was completely comical. Her heart was beating so fast and she nearly had a panic attack because Santa Claus! :)...
Writing does not come easy for me and it's not something I paid very much attention to in school either. I've had a story in my head for years and I've only managed to get a basic outline (if you could call it that) and a paragraph or two written. I've always been a fan of alternate realities and time travel stories and I came up with the idea on a trip to the ghost town Bodie. The main character is a photographer and as he's editing his shots he finds something very disturbing. As Bodie is known for the occasional ghost, he decides to research what he inadvertently captured and ends up catapulted into the past. My problem is that I have tons of ideas but not a lot of experience or talent in writing them down.
Then I found archiveofourown.org and I began reading some fan fiction. As a super fan of the Stargate franchise, particularly Stargate Atlantis, I thought what better way to get my feet wet than by using existing characters and settings and writing a shor...
